Rachel Zimmerman

Rachel Zimmerman was only twelve years old when she invented what she is famous for.  In the mid 1800's she created a device that helped people who couldn't communicate.  She created a software program using blissymbols. She would later create something that translated the symbols in to written language.  This invention benifited people with disablilities such as cerebral palsy. Later in her life she would study physics and space. 

I picked this person because she seemed like an interesting person.  I was very surprised thats she invented something so significant at the age of twelve.  It shows that there is no age limit to creating something great. I also picked her because she helped people with disabilities and that is a very good thing to do. 

Isaac Newton

When I think of science the scientist that comes to mind is Isaac Newton.  Isaac Newton made new laws of gravity during his time which help scientist with their research from his time on.  I impressed because he had dedication to his work and really worked hard on his discoveries.  Newton's discoveries were significant to helping people understand gravity.  So when I think of science I think of Isaac Newton. 

My goals

One of my goals this year is to start turning in my blog on time. I could by checking the web on a regular basis.  This would allow me to get better grades on the blog.  My other goal is to not break a single lab piece of equipment for the rest of the year. 

E-Portfolio Reflections

1.            Why is this exhibit a good choice for placement in your e-portfolio?

I chose for my e-portfolio I chose to do the superhero element project.  The reason I chose to do this is because it is probably my best work all year.  I think that it has a place in the e-portfolio because I put my work and time into this project and i came out with a good grade so that makes it necesary to put in my e-portfolio. 

2.      What did you find most interesting about this exhibit activity and why?

The most interesting part of this project was getting to learn about the element.  Getting to learn about the elemnt was great because before starting this project  I didn't know anything about the element Uranium.  This project was very interesting and also after learning all of the new things about are element we got to put it in a poster and that made sure you learned something. 

 

3.      In what way(s) did you find this exhibit a challenge to complete?

This project wasn't to difficult to complete because it wasnt to big of a project.  Although I hink that we could have had more time in class to work on it.  Maybe not every class but one more class period would have been nice because working at school on this is easier than at home because it is easier to contact the teacher because she is right there. 

 

4.      If you were to do this activity again what changes would you make and why?

If we were to do this project again I wouldn't change much because for this project there wasn't anything that really caused trouble for me.  Although if i were to change something about it i would make the paper something we do at school so that if there are any questions you can ask them then and make the poster something you do that night after you have done the paper.  I think that if we did it like this it could have been easier because the poster was easier to do after you had all of your facts written down and knew all about your topic. 

5.      What change(s) in attitude or behavior helped you to meet the challenge?

For this project you definantly had to be responsible because if you weren't and put it off till the last minute you would never finish in time.  Also if you didnt focus and just wanted to talk with your friends you would never finish because this was something that you needed to focus on.  So I guess dicipline is another thing that you would need so you didnt get distracted. 

6.      What grade would you give yourself for these reflections, from “1” to “4”, where “4” is the best? (Refer to the E-Portfolio Reflection Rubric.)Give specific evidence explaining why you gave yourself that grade.

I would give myself a 3 on this e-portfolio post.  The reason I would give myself this grade is because I dont think i answered all these questions great.  Although I think that for the most part i answerd my questions how they should be but maybe I could have been a little bit more in depth on my answers.
